in the 1980s, reo speedwagons popularity grew, as they recorded many hit singles that were very popular and started to become staples to the top rock charts. the first one was in 1980, with "keep on loving you". it became the bands first top 40 hit on the us billboard hot 100 singles chart. the album also became certified gold. it followed with another hit in the early 1980s, "take it on the run", which was the bands second top 40 hit on the charts, and the first top 20 hit. it also earned the band another gold certification. the album was released on october 30, 1981.
despite the success of oh! calcutta! in 1979, reo speedwagon was getting more serious about recording their follow-up album. when they finished recording, they chose to release it in 1981. while the album was being recorded, the band was going through a number of personnel changes. it was one of these changes that lead to the birth of their next album, hi infidelity. it was also the first album with drummer dallas taylor and vocalist kevin cronin. it was released on november 1, 1980, and it was certified platinum by the riaa in 1982. after the release of hi infidelity, reo speedwagon went into a hiatus in 1980, and it was not until 1981 that they started to reform.
reo speedwagonreleases their ninth studio album, (keep pushin) in 1987. this would be the first of four consecutive albums that would climb the us billboard 200 chart and be certified gold by usas riaa. it also would be the first of five consecutive gold certification by music canada (mc). the album itself peaked at number thirty-four on the us billboard 200 and would see the release of its single (keep pushin). the single is the highest charting single from this album, peaking at number twenty-four on the us billboard hot 100 and number twenty-six on the us billboard mainstream rock tracks chart. 3d9ccd7d82
